Choi Comes Through

Everyone pretty much agreed that the first shorts design was a bust, so we called in our resident artist to figure it out. Here's what Choi came up with...

Why didn't we ask him to do this in the first place? The logo looks great. We have to decide on only one of these shorts, but even we can't make a bad decision here. My vote goes to the white or grey. The only thing I'd tweak is the color of the "Doolies" in the bottom-left corner of the white and grey shorts to green.

Tremendous job by Choi.

Pre Season Poll

1 Doolies
2 Bombers
3 DOA
4 B Team
5 Cruel Shoes
6 Gas house
7 Stiffies
8 Delts House
9 Pot Bellies
10 Opals
11 Knights
12 Ramsey fire

We do not expect much Shake up in the league, but have a hunch that this could be the year the young and talented Doolies put it all together. We have heard they have been putting a lot of time into this years season. They have even started a doolies blog. I look forward to seeing all these teams play and looking forward to some healthy competition. Even though we list The Doolies as potential champs the Bombers are still the team to beat.

The Commish

P.S Dont forget about the toughest play off team to beat in league history DOA

First Contact from the Commish

Commissioner Bruce Vozeh is trying to get the ball rolling for the 2010 season...
Hi all,
Well it is that time of year for Ramsey Recreation Softball. Please let us know asap if your team will or will not be participating this year, please make sure to confirm either way. Last year we had twelve teams as per below (final reg season standings). I would anticipate the season starting on Sunday May 16th.

1 Bombers
2 B-Team
3 The Doolies
4 DOA
5 Cruel Shoes
6 Stiffies
7 Delta House
8 Opals
9 Gas House
10 Pot Bellies
11 Knights
12 Ramsey Fire

I have confirmation so far I believe from DOA, Cruel Shoes and Opals.

Thanks,
Bruce
I was glad to see that Mr. Vozeh referred to us as "The Doolies" and not just "Doolies". I think that distinction separates us from the rest of the league in some way. In what way, I'm not exactly sure, but in some way.

The Monk is on the ball and has informed the league that we will continue to bring our entertaining brand of softball across the border again this summer. I'm sure the league breathed a sigh of relief when they got that email.

The only actual news here is that the start date looks to be May 16th.

Pictures and uniforms

We need more guys with profile pictures on this blog......  Second off with the new addition of this blog and the extended discussion of the shorts and jerseys we might have the ugliest uniforms in high arc softball history.  Not that this bothers me because i am wearing the full uniform to every game no matter what.  BTW how about those sick hats we bought last year are we wearing them too?  So now we got a blue and burnt orange hat khaki and green jerseys and black shorts with argyles and birds with big beaks all over them....now that our uniform is complete lets discuss cleats.  I hate to break it to you but the locos locker room was not a free for all like the Boston College locker room.  So what to we do about cleats?  I think we should order them on eastbay and get the custom made ones with our name and numbers.  The only question from here is what color do we go with? lets try to get atleast (9 total colors)two more new colors on the cleats...Thank you for your time and what not!

p.s. Player head shots will be taken May 8 at 12 p.m along with the team picture.... The individual head shot will give you the option of a traditional blue background, brown background, or the famous laser background that 15 years ago u would give your right and left testicle to have on school picture day.  The team photo will be taken this day at Finch park.  Full uniform is required and these are mandatory.  The photos will be used for our team yearbook, the blog, and your picture will also appear next to the official stat sheet weekly!  Any questions contact Jerry Emanuemonk at 201 424 2629 or respond to the blog!!!!!!!

New Shorts Idea

G left his idea for our shorts in the comments section of an earlier post. It's a good idea, certainly worth considering...

On black shorts, take the outline of our Doolies logo and put it all over the shorts in different colors. Use the horseshoes in this picture as an example: http://www.lacrosseunlimited.com//imagedisplay.cfm?image=/lu/images/product/Super1970.jpg

Down the side we'll go with an argyle print in khaki and green with a white background. Here's an example of the argyle sides: http://www.thelaxhut.com/Maryland-Argyle-Lacrosse-Shorts-p-514.html

Let's hear what everyone thinks.

Craigslist Ads - The Holy Grail

Im a 26 yo male looking for a competive weeknight mens softball team to play on. Im a very good all around player, have all 5 tools.

Defensively I normally play SS or OF, offensively I normally bat 1 or 2, but can bat in the middle of the lineup, its just I prefer to go 4-4 with 4 singles than risk popping up trying to hit HRs, but I can hit HRs over 300'+ fences.

Jeter is probably the most comparable MLB player to my softball game, Im a great baserunner, great baseball IQ, can do a little bit of everything batting, and a very good defender (although jeter has no range to his left).

Craigslist is like a Beer League Softball Draft Board filled with absolute Jokes.

Tons of Decisions for the Doolies

Gentlemen, I recently spoke to Melly and he has informed me that Camo jerseys are a no-go. Apparantly there are about 700 other teams in the North Jersey Area who think camo is the coolest thing since fresh mozzerella. So, it has come down to us to make a couple decisions, so I decided to take it to the blog.

1. We need to figure out jersey colors once again. I mean there are a million different ways we can go with this and I almost consider it a blessing in disguise that we couldn't use camo or purple and gold. Like Drew said, "Camo is the new gay." Simpling quoting Drew.

2. Shorts have become our next issue. We gotta figure something out because I know almost everyone wants shorts whether or not they are going to wear them to the game. Personally, I am going to opt out of the full uniform, but still get trunks to sport around the Russian Bath House in Fair Lawn.

3. There has been alot of talk about our lineup and potential change at the top. No offense to the Monk if he is reading this, but everyone in Bergen County knows he is on the hot seat. Not sure who will have his job longer this year the Monk or Jerry Manuel. We seriously need to figure something out come opening day because we're not getting any younger and the Bombers are absolutely breathing down our necks. I mean I had to ride the train to Hoboken three weeks ago listening to the girl next to me talk about how she hangs out with the Bombers. (I am not joking either, ask Toal he was there.) That used to be us and it still stings. It is make it or break it year for the Doolies.

Lets hear some ideas because Melly has had enough with the jerseys and we gotta get this figured out.

Initial Team Shorts Mockup

I don't think anyone is going to love this initial mockup, but it could be worse.  A simple change of the colors to a camo theme would make a world of difference since Mets colors make me slightly nauseous right now.  Mailly has said we're not taking full advantage of what these guys claim they can do, so if anyone (read: Chachi and Toal) have outrageous ideas now is the time to speak up.

My personal suggestion would be to drop the number, get the right colors on there and possibly ask someone to design a better logo.  Everyone hated the bird on the shirt a few years back, I get a feeling nobody is gonna like it on the shorts.

This InterWeb is Interesting stuff Huh?

Well this is a first….

Just a bunch of young guys taking this old man’s league into the 21st century.

Since there has been a lot of speculation on how good we may be this year, I thought it would be fun to peruse the Cragslist Ads for softball players. This will allow us to gauge just how other softball players see themselves…

First post:

27 year old male... slight pudge.... played a wicked 2nd base from ages 5-12. Descent hand eye coordination and the ability to bring the thunder. Looking to join softball league/team preferably a Saturday league in Brooklyn or Manhattan.

So you are telling me that this “pudge” not only played a “wicked” 2nd base just a short 15 years ago, but his decent hand eye coordination allows him to “BRING THE THUNDER”? When do we sign him? I am sure that even though he hasn’t held down the 2 bag in over a decade, that it will have no effect on his skills. Joke.

Second Post:

Looking to get onto a softball team. I can play in a competitive league or in a league that is just for fun. I will change my attitude depending on the league type.

Oh this guy will change his attitude for us? We don’t have any attitude other than intensity and fuck bitches. Don’t do me no favors.

Third Post:

Experienced Modified Softball player looking for a Saturday Team to play for….. blah blah blah …..I'm looking to win and be competitive. Would love to be in a team that is straight business and no clowning around. Of course, I like to have fun too.

Straight Business? No clowning around? This guy is a definite pickup.

Noteable Off Season Workouts

Can we take a moment to recognize some great offseason productivity? First of all, we know that Bri is working out like 4 times a day with Styles P and Homer Plummer but there are a few other noteable offseason programs worth mentioning. G man has been working like a freak at the Y doing the 300 workout and even hitting an MMA gym, theres a reason the sloppy mits left the league and Ken Shamrock retired. How about Drewsy who is running in a 5K this weekend, has he mentioned this to anyone? What about Mel 90 X who, through recent DNA advances, has been proven to be the biological son of John Basedow and Tiger Schulman.
Finally we get to the Germo/Pullman tandem, while these two may be out of sight lately, rumor has it that they've been spotted on numerous occasions in a Tae Bo gym on Route 80 in Hackettstown. The bottom line is that we're fine tuning ourselves for what many in the greater Suffern area are predicting can be a championship run. Let's put it all together this year to maybe advance past the first round?

If anyone has spotted other Doolies running, jumping, swimming or even worse...playing jungle football, please bring it to my attention ASAP.

Season Kick Off!!!!!

Fellas This is your teammate, Brian here to announce his new name and number for the Doolies 2010 season:  Light Beers Heavily #16.... Before the season kickoffs their is still a lot to discuss so hear are a list of following topics that we should discuss on this blog before opening day.

1.) Drink List lets hear opinions or G and I are making one!
2.) Hats any opinions....I believe i am going with my usual Camo hat....should be purchasing one shortly.
3.)  Shorts and undergarments....Is everyone getting the shorts?  Must they be worn on gameday?  Is a jock or tights required for all players or just some players... If just some players which players?
4.)  Batting order...  This is pretty important....  Which Doolie will be batting first to kick off the 2010 season?
5.) Post game Polo's for interviews and after party... When are we ordering them and are we ordering them from farriers?  They are mandatory for all post game functions except for swimming...(If you are confused by what I am talking about please check my blog profile image)
6.)  Pre Season BBQ... Date? Location? Food? and since this is a big event I think each Doolie should be responsible for bringing some food and beverage of their choice.... A teammate requested no shell fish!
7.) Question number seven is the most interesting of them all....Does anyone know if Gos signed us up this year? and if he did who do we play in the opener and where is it?
